Camp Westminster

An excerpt from the Alumni News Letter

A Gift of Love and Labor Early in the summer, one of our Counselors re- quested that her summer wages be applied toward the scholarship program for campers who other- wise could not afford to attend camp. As it so happened, the next day a letter arrived from a mother who had attended CW back in 1978. The following is an excerpt of that letter:

“I attended Camp Westminster as a child back in 1978 –1980... I remember my mother buying this big trunk and filling it with all the things I would need...I can remember so much about my experiences at camp….

The most important memory I will forever have of Camp Westminster is the memory of asking Jesus Christ into my heart. After I prayed I felt such warmth and sense of peace.

This is my reason for asking for a scholarship for my daughter. I think it would be amazing for her to go to a Camp I went to as a girl. The very camp where I committed my life to Christ. I could not afford the full session amount. I am very blessed and grateful, but with my current financial situation I just make enough to pay my bills and it does not leave much after.”

As a result of this request, part of the counselor’s generous gift was applied to pay for that child’s camp tuition. Additionally, we have arranged for the camper to bunk in her cabin during her week at camp. We do not typically identify the scholar- ship campers to our counseling staff but in this case we are going to let the counselor know, con- fidentially, that there is someone in her cabin who is directly benefiting from her scholarship gift.
